Presented in the grounds of the ancient cemetery and Μuseum of Kerameikos, one of the most significant monuments of Ancient Athens, during the autumn of 2015 NEON commissioned Cypriot artist Maria Loizidou to create a sprawling installation.
Using modern techniques to weave stainless steel fibres, for this City Project Loizidou created a dialogue between the memory of place and the traces of the traditional Greek art of weaving. Curated by Syrago Tsiara, Deputy- Director MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art, the exhibition A Transfer, unfolded along a route that began from the windows overlooking the museum’s inner courtyard and led to six further points around the archaeological site. Along this itinerary, the exhibition showcased different aspects of the feminine creative craft of weaving: the collective work, the correlation of weaving with the notion of time, and the artistic depiction of the female psyche on the crafted work.
